Strand E: Portuguese
Pathway to Portuguese for Certified Spanish Teachers
Certified Spanish teachers can expand their impact by becoming qualified to teach Portuguese through a dynamic program with Fresno State’s Kremen School of Education, the Central California World Language Project (CCWLP), and the Portuguese Beyond Borders Institute (PBBI). Participants will gain advanced linguistic and cultural competence in Portuguese, meet certification requirements, and empower California students to become multilingual, fostering academic success and global engagement. The strand develops Portuguese proficiency, introduces innovative, student-centered teaching strategies, and deepens understanding of the Portuguese diaspora in California and beyond. By the end of the strand, participants will be prepared and eligible to begin teaching Portuguese, opening new opportunities for students to become culturally competent, multilingual learners empowered to thrive in an interconnected world.
